Lorraine Christie
Born in Belfast and currently living in the U.S.A, Lorraine Christie has been a professional painter since 1990. Although classically trained, she prefers to be known as a self-taught artist. “A person cannot become an artist until they absorb some of the world around them”. Her unique impressionistic style has brought her international acclaim and her work is highly prized in Ireland. Her work has been acquired by the Ulster Museum and she has had many high profile exhibitions in London, Dublin and Dallas, U.S.A. Her work is included in many corporate collections worldwide Lorraine Christie’s subject areas include still life, flower pieces, figurative and genre paintings. Influenced by the Impressionists and their fascination with light, she has drawn inspiration from the work of past masters such as Cezanne and Singer-Sargent where she found encouragement to explore and develop her own love of texture and colour. Her beautifully balanced compositions and skill at illuminating her subject with warmth and light and her use of vibrant colour are what make her work so highly prized. “I dearly wish to leave my mark on the world. I can only hope that the viewer can catch a glimpse of the world as I see it…….. rich with colour and quality. I believe it to be impossible to approach different subjects in the same style or stroke……. we dress differently in summer than we do in winter, so I paint according to whichever style my subject demands”.
